DAYTON, OH - In
an exciting 7-game series, the New York Knights, guided by
skipper Mike See took the inaugural SPB-Classic world
series in 7 games over the Newport Mansions. Complete
writeups and boxscores are available by clicking on the WORLD
SERIES link. Congratulations Mike!
April 30, 2006,
Replacement manager named
DAYTON, OH - With the unfortunate passing of fellow manager Larry Schilling, I am happy to announce that we have a capable manager to replace Larry. Fellow SPB manager John Moore, who has franchises in SPB’s 5 and 100 will be taking over the Houma Indians franchise.
John's new team name will be the Lexington Locofocos.
Welcome aboard John!
April 9, 2006,
Inaugural season finished, playoffs set
DAYTON, OH - Thank
you everyone for a great season! The playoff matchups will
be as follows:
AL: Mike See's N.Y.Knights
vs Marc Hollingsworth's Louisville Colonels.
NL: Tim Johnson's
Newport Mansions vs. Greg Stillwagon's Motor City Hitmen.
These playoff series will be MP/Netplay
series for the title.
Good luck to everyone!
March 26, 2006,
Knights and Hitmen clinch divisional titles
DAYTON, OH - Congratulations
goes out to Mike See and Greg Stillwagon for clinching their
divisions, guaranteeing a playoff spot in the inaugural season of
SPB-Classic. The Louisville Colonels should clinch next
week, with the NL East going down to the last week.
March 22, 2006,
Pitcher salaries to change
DAYTON, OH - In an effort to
tweak the salary structure to better represent actual pitching
stats than team-relates stats, I have tweaked the salary formula
for pitchers, mainly relievers. I have devalued the saves by
50%. There are plenty of good relievers who did not get a lot of
saves who are better pitchers but who are at a lower salary than
pitchers who had a lot of saves, but who may have not been as
dominant. This should relieve some of that disparity.
Overall, the salaries for some of the top save relievers will go
down, meaning nobody should see an increase in their overall team
salary. Since all of the salaries decreased, the new
salaries will go into effect at seasons end before the 10%
increase takes effect.
August 22, 2006 *Updated*
Yet another team name change
DAYTON, OH. - After much deliberation, I have decided to change my team name from the Brew City Brats to the
Brew City Beer Barons. If my team is going to play haplessly in the SPB-Classic league, they may as well be so aptly named . . . ha, ha. Actually, there is method to my madness.
August 15, 2006,
Team Name change
DAYTON, OH -
Terry Baxter
has announced that the Rochester Alert will now be known as the
Minneapolis Millers. This will be reflected on all future
correspondence regarding this team.
August 13, 2006,
Stadium Changes announced.
DAYTON, OH -
The following
teams have changed stadiums:
Bill Lanke-Rocks Royals Stadium to Redland Field (1912-20)
Joe Dezarlo-Cyclones Polo Grounds to Shea Stadium (1979-05)
John Moore-Locofocos Shibe Park to Crosley Field (1958-70)
John Cusack-Ghosts Crosley Field to Yankee Stadium (37-66)
You may still change stadiums if you want on a first-come first served basis.
July 31, 2006,
New Manager, Dues, Stadium requests, draft news.
DAYTON, OH -
It is my pleasure
to announce that John Cusack will be taking the reigns for Paul
Kenyon’s Loopy Lefties franchise.
He will have a new team name coming soon. He will be
getting his 12-man protected roster to me by the end of the week.
I will post the updates after I receive them.
I have still yet to hear from several of you concerning
league dues for next year and a confirmation that you have ordered
the season disk.
If you wish to change stadiums, I will be taking requests
until 6PM, Monday August 7th.
Any duplicate requests will go to the team with the worst
record last season.
There
are several new stadiums on the disk to chose from.
Please also indicate the years that are accompanying the
stadii as well to help make it clear which one you are requesting
since a few stadii have several versions on the disk.
The draft will commence on Monday August 14th.
I will post a schedule soon.
It will be very easy to follow, with the good part of the
draft picking 1 player per day.
More
will follow the closer we get.
The season will start October 1st.
July 29, 2006,
Rosters updated
DAYTON, OH - The
team rosters and salary structures have been changed/updated. With
the new disk there were several players both old and new whose
stats changed, thus affecting their salaries. Those players
that you have protected will NOT be affected by the salary change.
Since players' salaries have increased and decreased, the net
effect will be very small and not worth the effort to readjust the
10% increases and making people recheck their rosters. The
new salaries will be used for the draft. Your 12 protected
players will show as bolded on the team salaries page for the
entire season. Any protected/bolded player that is traded
during the season will maintain their increased salary. I
will be announcing the draft schedule and format soon.
July 24, 2006,
Another new manager for season 2
DAYTON, OH - It is with great pleasure that I announce that
Bill Lanke will take over for Joe Terry’s Birmingham Cloverleafs, which used to be Rich Applegate’s St.Louis Stars. I have allowed him to choose his own 12 protected players.
Welcome Bill!
June 9, 2006,

New managers for season 2
DAYTON, OH - I
would like to introduce the 2 newest managers to the SPB-Classic
stable. Taking
over for Richard Applegate will be current SPB manager Joe
Terry. Joe currently owns franchises in SPB’s 3 and 5.
Joe’s team name will be the
Birmingham
Cloverleafs….the same as it is in SPB-5. Taking over
for Ricardo Lois will be SPB newcomer Michael Clary.
Mike joins us from
Fresno
California
, and his bio will be posted shortly. His team name will be

Applegate for their fine service to the league, and for helping it

standing, and are welcomed back at anytime! Take a moment to
welcome our two newest managers. Good luck guys!

Salary floor set at $3,100.00
DAYTON, OH - In order to
prevent teams from dumping salary, in order to gain a better draft
position, a salary floor/minimum of $3,100 has been
established. The 2 highest Expected Win teams will also be
added to the lottery along with the teams with the two worst
record, just like the other SPB leagues.
January 22, 2006,
Trading / Player movement deadline approaching
DAYTON, OH - The deadline for
player movements and trading will be February 1st. This is
the Wednesday that movements are due prior to week 17, meaning 2
more weeks. After week 17, only those cases teams that have
injury scenarios that require a player update will be handled on a
case by case basis. If you do need to acquire a replacement
player, one will have to be released with the replacement player
having an equal or lesser salary than the injured player he is
being called in for.
January 10, 2006,

Brats name field boss
OAK CREEK, WI.. - The Brew City Brats today named former New York Yankee pitcher, Marv
Breuer, to manage the team in its inaugural campaign. Breuer, who pitched 5 seasons in the majors, has no previous managerial or coaching experience. GM Jim Copeland openly admitted that Breuer was a sentimental choice, both hailing from the same mid-Missouri town of Rolla. Marvin Howard "Baby Face"
Breuer, born April 29, 1914, is the only player from the city, population of 16,000 plus, to have played in the major leagues. In his career, Breuer won 25, lost 26 with an ERA of 4.03 in the years 1939 to 1943.
