June 8th, 2007
World Series writeups and voting
DAYTON, OH. - Better late than never...the writeups for the 1968NL World Series have been posted.  Also, the voting results for the 68NL Awards and All Stars have been posted.

May 24th, 2007
Beer Barons take series, and other notes
DAYTON, OH. - Congratulations goes out to Jim Copeland and his Brew City Beer Barons for taking the final four games of the World Series after an opening game win by Joe Dezarlo’s Brooklyn Cyclones. All the games were relatively close ones (in this era not surprising), but more impressively is the 3 straight road wins for the Spud Chuggers in Joisey.

This officially ends the 1968NL Season. The World Series scores are already posted on the website, with game writeups being due shortly. Voting ballots will be posted shortly. I kindly ask all managers from this season to vote, including those who do not intend on participating next season to finish out your commitment to the league. It would be much appreciated!

Dave Lauer of the Eagles, John Moore of the Locofocos, and Bill Lanke of the Rocks have decided not to participate after this season. I thank them all for their participation, and they are all more than welcome back to the league at anytime. I will be canvassing for new managers soon.

I have next season’s salaries in hand, but will distribute them at a later date within the next few weeks after we get new managers in place. The draft order and a list of what your teams’ 12-player salary limit will be posted around the same time.

Speaking of next season, you will be happy to know that the era that we will be using will be the 1929AL season. This is the 5th highest offensive season ever. The reason this era was chosen is that is contains the stats that most closely resemble the stats needed to “balance out” the first two seasons we have played so that every 3 seasons matches as close to the neutral era as possible. In the long run, this gives neither hitters nor pitchers an advantage. You can use this information to help you decide what 12 players you may want to keep for next season.

I will be taking a 3-week hiatus starting June 9th thru the 27th where I will not have internet access. During this time I will be traveling to and from Cimarron New Mexico on a Boy Scout backpacking expedition at Philmont scout ranch. Please address any questions to Mike See during this time.

Congrats again to Jim Copeland for winning the title in a very difficult and challenging season!

Races go down to the wire
DAYTON, OH. - With only 6 weeks remaining in the season, all four divisional races are still up for grabs, with 11 of the 16 teams all within 5 games of the lead.  Your player usage could be a key factor on whether  or not you finish strong to end the year!

68NL Refill draft complete
DAYTON, OH. - I am pleased to announce the draft is now over.  Thanks again to everyone for making it go so smoothly.  You are now allowed to trade and swap players out on your roster at will as long as you stay under the cap.  Any player traded that was on your protected roster will carry their inflated salary on to the next team.

Change in block 2 salary for draft
DAYTON, OH. - I am forced to make a small correction to the salary cap for block 2. I am raising it from $550 to $600. This means both blocks 1 and 2 will be $600. The reason behind this is that the team with the most to spend has 2817 (2 teams actually). If you add up the max you can spend for each block, it comes out to 2770, which would still leave some teams with $$ left over. Raising block 2 by $50 will put the max amount at 2820, which is 3 dollars above what any one team can spend. I did not want to raise block 1 because I figured some clubs already had a plan with their first block budget, and I didn’t want to mess with that. The block 2 amount will be reflected on the spreadsheet later this week.

Yet another team name change
DAYTON, OH. - After much deliberation, I have decided to change my team name from the Brew City Brats to the Brew City Beer Barons. If my team is going to play haplessly in the SPB-Classic league, they may as well be so aptly named . . . ha, ha. Actually, there is method to my madness.

August 15, 2006,
Team Name change
DAYTON, OH -  Terry Baxter has announced that the Rochester Alert will now be known as the Minneapolis Millers.  This will be reflected on all future correspondence regarding this team.

August 13, 2006,

Joe Dezarlo-Cyclones Polo Grounds to Shea Stadium (1979-05)

You may still change stadiums if you want on a first-come first served basis.

New Manager, Dues, Stadium requests, draft news.
DAYTON, OH -  It is my pleasure to announce that John Cusack will be taking the reigns for Paul Kenyon’s Loopy Lefties franchise.  He will have a new team name coming soon. He will be getting his 12-man protected roster to me by the end of the week.  I will post the updates after I receive them.

I have still yet to hear from several of you concerning league dues for next year and a confirmation that you have ordered the season disk.

If you wish to change stadiums, I will be taking requests until 6PM, Monday August 7th.  Any duplicate requests will go to the team with the worst record last season.

There are several new stadiums on the disk to chose from.  Please also indicate the years that are accompanying the stadii as well to help make it clear which one you are requesting since a few stadii have several versions on the disk.

The draft will commence on Monday August 14th.  I will post a schedule soon.  It will be very easy to follow, with the good part of the draft picking 1 player per day.

More will follow the closer we get.  The season will start October 1st.

July 29, 2006,
Rosters updated
DAYTON, OH -  The team rosters and salary structures have been changed/updated. With the new disk there were several players both old and new whose stats changed, thus affecting their salaries.  Those players that you have protected will NOT be affected by the salary change. Since players' salaries have increased and decreased, the net effect will be very small and not worth the effort to readjust the 10% increases and making people recheck their rosters.  The new salaries will be used for the draft.  Your 12 protected players will show as bolded on the team salaries page for the entire season.  Any protected/bolded player that is traded during the season will maintain their increased salary.  I will be announcing the draft schedule and format soon.

July 24, 2006,
Another new manager for season 2
DAYTON, OH -  It is with great pleasure that I announce that Bill Lanke will take over for Joe Terry’s Birmingham Cloverleafs, which used to be Rich Applegate’s St.Louis Stars. I have allowed him to choose his own 12 protected players. Welcome Bill!

June 9, 2006,
Draft order set for season 2
DAYTON, OH -  The draft order has been set for the second season of SPB-Classic.  The order for the first round is listed to the right. The exact start date will be dependant on the release date of the updated All-Time greats disk. The entire draft order can be found in the DRAFT CENTRAL section on the left.

New managers for season 2
DAYTON, OH -  I would like to introduce the 2 newest managers to the SPB-Classic stable. Taking over for Richard Applegate will be current SPB manager Joe Terry.  Joe currently owns franchises in SPB’s 3 and 5.  Joe’s team name will be the Birmingham Cloverleafs….the same as it is in SPB-5.   Taking over for Ricardo Lois will be SPB newcomer Michael Clary.  Mike joins us from Fresno California , and his bio will be posted shortly.  His team name will be the Fresno Bees. I would like to thank Ricardo Lois and Rich Applegate for their fine service to the league, and for helping it get started on the right foot.  They both leave in good standing, and are welcomed back at anytime!  Take a moment to welcome our two newest managers.  Good luck guys!
