New Manager on board
FRANKFORT, IN -
Vin Onstott has decided to leave SPB 60 immediately, and I have a new manager in place to replace him already. Rick Ryan, a manager most all of you know personally will be taking over Vin's old St. Clare Shores Marineers, and he will be sending you the MP's for his April series out right away, maybe even tonight. But if not tonight, he will have them out Monday morning. I know several of you had inquired about these MP's which had not been sent this month by Vin. I will also be forwarding the MP's for Marineers MP's to Rick, if I had copies of from managers who had sent their April profiles to Vin, and IF you cc'ed me with them. If I do not have all that he (Rick) needs, I will contact certain managers to send the MP's again to Rick. Please bear with us on this early season change.

52 Free Agents rewarded
FRANKFORT, IN -I am announcing that our 2 free agents have been awarded, ahead of time, because our two teams with the worst records in 1951 have already staked a claim, and thereby are awarded the 2 players.

1B/OF George Wilson was awarded to the Schenectady Patriots (Don Rahn). (38 wins)
3B Hal Bevan goes to the East Kenosha Lakers (Dave Lauer). (45 wins).

Thanks to all who sent claims in. The next send of league files for 1952 will include these players on the proper rosters.

52 Draft call for protected rosters
FRANKFORT, IN -
I am calling for protected rosters to be due no later than next Sunday, April 1st. The following list will give the number of players each team may protect this year:

20 Players
Schenectady Patriots (Don Rahn)
East Kenosha Lakers (Dave Lauer)
Riverside Robbers (John Turnbull)
Newark Bears (Joe DeZarlo)

19 Players
Wabash Six (Bill Lanke)
Mound City Saints (Rich Applegate)
Masillon Tigers (John Ungashick)
Joliet Jakes (Terry Baxter)
Louisiana Lightning (Mike See)
St. Clare Shores Mariners (Vin Onstott)

18 Players
Frankfort Frigates (Gary Plunkitt)
Raleigh Tarheels (Steve Lehman)
Asbury Park Titans (
New Bedford Ahabs (Chris Williams)

The reason I am calling for these already, is that with the double drafts at the end of April, and the fact that I am still trying to get the the 1975 files out by April 1st, we have to get things set up a bit early, so that all managers will be able to have their draft plans in place by 4/28. Calling early on 1952 allows those drafting in both drafts to have the time they will need to prepare for 2 of them on the same weekend.  Sorry for the confusion on the first email. Of course, trading for all players can continue through next Sunday, or when all proteted rosters are received, whichever comes first. After all P2 rosters are in, trading will then be limited to only the protected players from that point through the conclusion of the 1952 rookie draft.

Stadium Change
FRANKFORT, IN - Manager Mike See has decided to change home stadiums for the coming season. He has taken over Shibe Park A.L. for his home games in 1952. By doing this, he gives up Forbes Field. Forbes now joins Crosley Park as the two available parks.

1951 Champion Crowned!
FRANKFORT, IN - A huge congratulations goes out to manager Steve Lehman, as he guided his team to a huge comeback World Series win over the Frankfort Frigates. Down 3 games to one, his team turned it all around and beat the Frigates easily in their final two home games at Briggs Stadium. A huge disappointment for me, but an astounding and satisfying win for Steve. He will be supplying the details of the games to all soon. I am sure you will be amazed at his teams performance when facing elimination after 4 games were in. I certainly was.

1951 post-season reports
FRANKFORT, IN - Not wanting to buck with tradition, I present to you this years Overusage and Use or Lose reports for the 1951 campaign.

December 27, 2011
1951 3 game playoff needed.
FRANKFORT, IN - The Raleigh Tarheels managed by Steamin' Steve Lehman, won 2 Straight games to take the best of 3 playoffs, while coming from behind both times, to win the 1951 A.L. Championship Play offs over the New Bedford Ahabs, managed by Chris Williams (aka the Professor).

The writeups will be posted to the webpage, along with the stats and results, as soon as we receive the game reports from Steve. Congratulations to the Tarheels manager, Steve Lehman. His team will soon take on the Frankfort Frigates, the N.L. Championship team. The Frigates manager, Gary Plunkitt (aka the Old Curmudgeon) also gets the old Tip of the Hat.

The A.L. as we all know saw the Tarheels and Ahabs end up the season in a tie with 92 wins each. Now that the play off has been won by Raleigh, who end up with 94 wins the W.S for 1951 is set. In the N.L. the Frigates racked up 106 wins to take the Crown. Finishing 2nd were Terry Baxters Joliet Jakes with 90 victories on the Year.

51 Voting results posted
DAYTON, OH - It is my privilege to announce that hard hitting, slick fielding hot cornerman Bob Elliott of the New Bedford Ahabs has captured the 1950 A.L. MVP Award. In the N.L., the MVP Award has went to slugging catcher Yogi Berra of the Joliet Jakes. The N.L. Cy Young pitching Award was easily won by crafty veteran righty Larry Jansen of the Schenectady Patriots. The A.L. Cy Young winner was hard throwing Ewell Blackwell of the Massilon Tigers.

To see all the other Award winning 1950 players, as well as the A.L. and N.L. 1950 All Star teams, be sure to visit the Voting Booth results soon. There were many tight races throughout the ballots. See where your teams players finished in the League wide voting!

Thanks to all managers for voting in 1950! Job well done.

Hank Wyse claimed
DAYTON, OH - The winner of the valuable Hank Wyse free agent sweepstakes for the coming '51 season is the Shores Mariners, where manager Vin Onstott was quick to exercise a claim on the veteran pitcher. Other interested teams were the Newark Bears and Schenectady Patriots. But by virtue of the Mariners feeble 37 wins during 1950, they were the lucky (?) winners of Wyse, who had been released earlier in spring training by the Louisiana Lightning. Wyse is now a Mariner, and has been added to their roster.

1951 Draft date set
FRANKFORT, IN: - During our recent vote, the draft date that was most popular our managers is April 30th. It was first choice of over half the managers who voted for certain dates. 2nd most popular was the 16th, with the 23 & 5/7 bringing up the rear. There were 5 managers with no date preferences at all. So our draft day works out to be April 30th. Mark your calendars everyone.

December 29, 2010
1950 World Series Champion crowned
FRANKFORT, IN: - Congratulations goes to Terry Baxter as his Jakes took the 1950 W.S. crown rather handily from the Bishops, managed by Chris Williams, in a convincing 5 game series that proves the Jakes were to hot to handle this season.   Boxscores and recaps are now posted, and writeups will be posted soon as they are received.

Congratulations from the Commissioner
FRANKFORT, IN: - All SPB 60 - 1950 Managers, My best wishes and congratulations go to our 1950 League Champions! In the American League, Chris Williams guided his New Bedford Ahabs to 98 wins in a very balanced 1950 season. Finishing in 2nd place were John Ungashick's Massilon Tigers, who finished 8 games off the pace while taking 90 victories, while representing the only other A.L. team to finish over .500. In a much tighter race in the National League, Terry Baxter led his Joliet Jakes to 83 wins which was enough to capture the championship. This league featured a season long tussle among the top 5 teams for the championship. Don Rahn captured 2nd place while leading his Schenectady Patriots to 81 wins, a mere 2 games behind the leaders. These winning teams will meet soon for the 1950 World Series. Best of luck to Chris and Don as the battle for the ultimate 1950 title. Footnote: The final month of September, 1950 play saw veteran lefties Max Lanier of the Frankfort Frigates, and Warren Spahn of the East Kenosha Lakers both throw no hitters. A rare double no no for a single month! Lanier missed a perfect game only by walking the lead off hitter during his masterful performance.

December 21, 2010
September stats and power rankings are now posted
DAYTON, OH: - The final stats for September 1950 are now posted.  Congratulations to AL Champs Chris Williams and the New Bedford Ahabs, who will face  the NL pennant winner in Terry Baxter, and his Joliet Jakes.  Good luck to both teams in the World Series!

Change in Commissioner
DAYTON, OH: - SPB 60 Commissioner Mike See has resigned as the leader of this league.  In his last official duty, he has named Gary Plunkitt as his successor.  Gary will take over as the Commish in SPB 60 immediately.

The former Commish sighted increased responsibilities with his job, involving much travel as the main reason.  He stated it had gotten to the point, where he would have to give up the Commish's chair, since he was unable to keep up with the responsibility of making league posts to the SPB 60 web page.  The good news is Mike will be continuing as manager of the Louisiana Lightning.

1948 Regular season completed.   1948 World Series set.
LAS VEGAS, NV. - The first season of spb60 is in the books. In the A.L. a huge congratulations got out the Albert "Doc Schweitzer and his Asbury Park Titans, as they win their final 12 in a row to take the AL flag by 7 games over the 90 win Ahabs and Six. I believe this is Al's first ever pennant winner in SPB, so I'm sure this is especially sweet!  In the NL, it was no contest, as the mighty Sin City Mobsters cruised to the title by 12 games, over a late surging Joliet Jakes. The is Greg's first pennant as well (CONGRATS Greg!) so we will have a all first timer match up in the World Series in 1948!  All 1948 Regular season stats are now posted.

New Seasons Past League readies its launch back into the "Golden Age" of baseball!
LAS VEGAS, NV - We hope you will consider joining this new SPB league. 1948 was a great season with aging stars such as Johnny Mize, Walker Cooper, Charlie Keller, Tommy Henrich and Joe DiMaggio, established stars in their prime like Stan Musial, Ted Williams, Bob Feller, Del Ennis, Ralph Kiner, Hank Sauer, Enos Slaughter, Warren Spahn, Johnny Sain (and pray for Rain!), Lou Boudreau, Joe Gordon, Bobby Doerr, and rising young stars such as Richie Ashburn, Roy Campanella, Yogi Berra Pee Wee Reese, Carl Erskine, Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby. And I'm sure I have forgotten many! Many of us weren't around for the SPB-II 1948 season, and maybe a few wouldn't mind replaying it with different players. Sign up for soon to play the Golden Era of baseball!
